A Message from the Head Regarding the Health Crisis

The University has responded to the health crisis by moving all courses online after the spring break. In EALC, we now offer all of our classes online including the language classes in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Despite the unprecedented challenges we have faced, our faculty and students have risen to the occasion and are continuing the tradition of excellence that the University of Illinois is known for. In other news, we are delighted to announce that Professor Myoung-Sun Song will be joining the EALC faculty in Fall 2020. We are cautiously hopeful that by the fall classes will have returned to normal but, in the meantime, EALC is continuing its mission of teaching and researching about East Asia and fostering greater cultural understanding between East and West.  Indeed, we feel that our mission has never had greater significance than during the present crisis.   We will continue to offer updates as the situation evolves.
